Greener v. Shell

Greener v. Shell

is a national disability civil rights class action lawsuit. The parties to the suit have voluntarily signed a consent decree that will guarantee compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act for persons with mobility disabilities at 3,840 Shell stations in 1,768 cities across the United States. The decree covers more facilities of a single company than does any other reported ADA settlement signed since the passage of the ADA eight years ago. Listed here are some of the highlights.

WHEN PUMP ACTIVATION SERVICE IS TO BE PROVIDED

:

In addition to the services described above, and upon request of a person with a disability, any person staffing a cash register at self service stations and at full service stations during non-full service hours, will activate fuel dispensing equipment that would otherwise be activated by use of a self-service card reader provided that the fuel dispenser can be activated from an area at or nearby the cash register and is not already activated.

Upon reasonable request, assistance in obtaining goods for purchase will be provided to customers with disabilities unless legitimate safety requirements (including crime prevention measures) preclude such service.

SIGNS SPECIFYING SERVICE

The sign will also specify the method by which a motorist with a disability can indicate a request for refueling and/or pump activation service if applicable.
